Rwanda Meets Trenchless Technology |
|||||
This past summer our circulation manager, Alexis Tarbet, made a 17-day trip to Rwanda to work at the Kibogora Hospital. This was a remarkable endeavor by Alexis. Upon her arrival in Rwanda, she was met by two men from the hospital who escorted her on a six-hour drive over rough roads in an ambulance filled with medical supplies. Alexis’ mission while at the hospital was to complete a business plan to show financial donors where Kibogora is headed, to create a logical plan for the hospital administration and for the Rwanda government. Alexis’ trip was sponsored by Cornerstone Free Methodist Church in Akron, Ohio, and through individual donations, including the employees at Benjamin Media, publishers of Trenchless Technology. Kibogora Hospital has 230 beds and being in a developing country that was devastated by civil war and genocide in 1994, the hospital is in much need of help. Alexis’ plan is to return to the hospital in a few years with a small group and continue her work. It would be nice to help. Contributions can be sent to: Central Africa Health Care Organization (CAHO)c/o King Trust Kibogora Hospital, 8050 Spring Arbor Rd., PO Box 580, Spring Arbor, MI 49283 USA. |

Fortunately for Maynard Akkerman, president and owner of Akkerman Inc. and Trenchless Technology’s 2008 Person of the Year, his career found him at the ripe old age of 8 and has kept him on his toes ever since. A passion for the trenchless industry first grasped Akkerman when he witnessed his father succeed with his first tunnel boring machine and it hasn’t loosened its grip yet. Read More
