Xylem Inc. Appoints Managing Director for Xylem India

Xylem Inc. has announced the appointment of H. Balasubramaniam (Bala) as the company’s new managing director for Xylem in India.
He joins Xylem from General Electric, where he spent more than 15 years, most recently as business director of the company’s locomotive projects business, and prior to that as CEO of GE Water Process and Technologies, South Asia. He replaces Sam Yamdagni, who is leaving the company.
“Bala’s extensive global operations expertise and his success in growing GE’s water business in India fit perfectly with our need to develop further in this important growth market,” said Xylem Inc. CEO and president Steve Loranger. “We will look to him to build on the foundation we’ve established, leveraging our talented team to help our existing and new customers in India solve their most challenging water issues.”
While at GE, he was also vice president of GE Capital International Services and general manager of quality and operations at the company’s Industrial Systems group. Prior to that, he held various engineering positions at Ford New Holland Tractors and Eicher-Mitsubishi. He earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering at India’s National Institute of Industrial Engineering in Mumbai, and a master’s degree in quality and statistics at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani in India. He is a certified Master Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
Xylem in India
Xylem employs 200 people in India, and operates a manufacturing and testing facility, as well as a Research, Development and Engineering Center in Vadodara. The company also has sales and service facilities in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Pune. The company has participated in a number of high-profile water projects in the power, industrial, irrigation and water and wastewater treatment sectors in India, including receipt of a contract to provide water transport systems to the Andhra Pradesh irrigation project.
